You've probably noticed that there's a lot of Japanese on here. I prefer the Japanese terms in Bleach, so I've left them where I can. This should help if you're confused about any terms you don't know, or are unsure how to use them!
Language Notes
In Japanese, when stating a full name, the last name is stated first, followed by the first name (example: Kuchiki Rukia), and when addressing someone, the last name is often used instead of the first name.
Suffixes are almost always used after names, and may come after the first name or the last name. Only in cases where the speaker is very close to the person they are speaking to, or when the speaker is being very rude or forward, is the suffix left off. For a list of suffixes, see the Terms section.
People may be referred to by their last name or first name. In Bleach, it's much more common for people to refer to each other by last name, except in cases where the speaker and the person they're referring to are close. For example, Renji, Hinamori, and Kira were students together and are good friends, but refer to each other by last name, using -kun with the name because of their friendship. Even Hitsugaya, who is very close to Hinamori, calls her by her last name. When someone is speaking to someone they're not very close to, last names are used in most cases, followed by -san or, if their rank is appropriate, -fukutaichou or -taichou.
When referring to a Japanese word as plural, -s or -es is not used, and the word remains as is. For example, zanpakutou is used regardless of whether you mean one zanpakutou or five.
